Description
This rifle is a superb example of mid-to-late 20th-century European craftsmanship, combining the rugged reliability of the Mauser 98 action with the refined aesthetics of a premium hunting firearm. Manufactured by Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka (CZ) Brno, the ZKK series was engineered to be “overbuilt,” utilizing high-quality steel and traditional machining methods that are increasingly rare in modern production.
Technical Specifications & Features
• The Action: A true Controlled-Round Feed (CRF) bolt action. It features the legendary large claw extractor, which physically captures the rim of the cartridge the moment it leaves the magazine. This ensures 100% reliable cycling, even in unconventional shooting positions—a feature that earned this action the title of “The Gold Standard.”
• The Caliber: Chambered in .25-06 Remington, this rifle is a high-velocity specialist. It is a “quarter-bore” powerhouse, known for its exceptionally flat trajectory and light recoil. It is the perfect choice for long-range varminting or taking down medium-sized game like deer and antelope with surgical precision.
• The “Lux” Appointments: The presence of “tiger-stripe” (fiddleback) grain in the walnut stock indicates this is a “Lux” or “Deluxe” grade model. These rifles were hand-finished with a curved European cheek rest and intricate checkering on the grip, making them as much a work of art as a functional tool.
• Optics: Topped with a vintage Leupold scope, this setup represents a marriage of the best in European rifle engineering and American optical excellence.
Collector & Hunter Appeal
The ZKK 600 is widely considered the superior predecessor to the modern CZ 550. Unlike many modern rifles that use plastic or “*** metal” components, almost every part of the ZKK is milled steel. The L 505 serial prefix places this in a desirable production era, likely the 1970s or 80s, when Brno’s quality control was at its peak.
