- The combined 12-gauge Model 11 and “Sportsman” serial numbers reached 499,999 in August 1943, then jumped to 700,000 and continued. So your #405,984 falls in that pre-500,000 block, putting manufacture somewhere in the early 1940s, likely 1941–1943. Remington Society
- There were lots of Model 11s in the 400,000 serial number range used in WWII, mostly for aerial gunnery training. Your gun almost certainly served that role. Remington Society
