Description
Steyr Mauser Model 1912/61 – 7.62 NATO / .308 Bolt-Action Rifle (good Condition)
Up for sale is a classic Steyr Mauser Model 1912/61, a beautifully built piece of military history that’s been carefully maintained and lightly used. This rifle has only been fired once since I’ve owned it and remains in excellent overall condition.
Originally manufactured by Steyr in Austria as a Model 1912 Mauser, these rifles were later converted in the early 1960s to the Model 1912/61 configuration, chambered in 7.62×51 NATO (.308) to align with modern military standards of the time.
This gives you the best of both worlds:
Old-world Mauser craftsmanship
Modern, widely available ammunition
Key Features:
Chambered in 7.62 NATO / .308 Winchester
Smooth, reliable Mauser bolt-action (large-ring pattern)
5-round internal magazine (stripper clip capable)
Military heritage with updated post-war conversion
Strong, proven action design derived from the Gewehr 98 platform
These rifles were part of Chilean military upgrades in 1961, where original 7mm Mauser rifles were re-barreled or rechambered to 7.62 NATO for continued service.
Because of this, each rifle has a bit of unique character—no two are exactly the same.
This is a great option whether you’re:
A military surplus collector
Looking for a solid vintage shooter
Or just want a dependable bolt-action with history behind it
Fired once since ownership
Clean bore and solid action
Overall nice shape for its age
Well cared for and ready to go
This rifle is chambered for 7.62 NATO / .308, but as with all surplus firearms, make sure you are using appropriate ammunition for your specific rifle
Always have firearms inspected and serviced by a qualified gunsmith before use
Please ensure compliance with all local and state laws
This is a chance to own a piece of history that still performs today.
Feel free to reach out with any questions or for additional photos.
