This rifle bears the desirable J.P. Lower, Denver retailer stamp on the barrel. J.P. Lower was one of the premier sporting goods dealers of the American West during the late 1800s and sold Winchester firearms throughout the frontier.

The rifle retains an attractive, honest gray/brown patina with no obvious signs of heavy polishing or modern refinishing. The wood appears to be original and fits the metal well. The original dust cover is still present, which is a feature often missing on these rifles.

The action cycles properly, the hammer functions correctly including the half-cock notch, and the rifle appears complete. Bore is in good condition but hard to photograph. Lower magazine barrel is not attached and likely is inoperable at this time. barrel measures at 28″.

This is an authentic pre-1899 Winchester antique suitable for a Winchester collection, western collection, or investment-quality antique firearm.
