Genuine 1600-1700s Spanishcolonial brass cup hilt rapier. Purchased from antiquites dealer Artemis Gallery in Louisville, Colorado in 2021. Will come with a certificate of authenticity from them.
Unlike most antique swords on the market this was no ceramonial or decorative piece. This sword was a made to be a weapon and its condition suggests it likely saw considerable use.
The blade has an especially nice patina and even still holds an edge in many places. There are maker marks on both sides of the blade at the base.
The hilt is well-worn with lots of signs of age and use. The wire wrapping the grip is loose. The crossbar has been repaired.
Overall an extremely interesting piece of history.
