Sako L61R Finnbear is a legendary, long bolt-action rifle made by the Finnish company Sako from 1961-1973. Known for its buttery smooth action, three-lug bolt, and exceptional accuracy.
This rifle is chambered for 300 Winchester Magnum and is in fabulous, near-mint condition. The bluing is beautiful- 99% perfect, the action is exceptionally clean and smooth with minimal wear, the rifling is crisp, the walnut stock is also 99% perfect with a glossy, waterproof (yep, it is!) Spar Varnish finish, it looks great. There is no damage to the metal or wood, no rust, no cracks, no blemishes. The trigger is incredibly smooth and light- scale pulls a mite over 2 lbs., it’s sweet! Also has an extra 3 round magazine just for kicks.
Comes with a new leather sling, and a surprisingly accurate and stout Simmons 4-12 scope. Honestly, the scope really surprised me (and exceeded all my expectations) with great clarity, easy to adjust *****, flip-up lens caps, and a very solid build inside and out. (Who knew a $60 scope would be as clear and well-made as this is!)
The rifle shoots as accurate as you’d expect a classic Sako to be. At 100 yards my son shot a 1/2 inch group of 3 using 180 grain Federal factory loads- and the Simmons scope. I kid you not! Last winter he took a bull elk at 200 + yards with 1 shot, 220 grain Hornady factory load. I guarantee you’ll be thrilled by the accuracy of this rifle.
This rifle is heavy by today’s standards with a beautiful full walnut stock, but it also doesn’t crush your shoulder from felt recoil like today’s lightweight models.
The price is firm ($1850), it’s worth every penny and then some. I checked with Sako (Berretta now) and was told that as long as the ammunition used doesn’t exceed SAMMI standards the rifle is good to go for years to come-even at its age.
I also have Hornaday Whitetail ammunition: 3 boxes 150 gr. and 4 boxes + a partial box (15 rnds) 180 gr. Interlock for $35/box ($1.75/rnd) if you’re interested. (Less than current ammo prices!)
A lightweight soft-sided gun case is also available for $10. (To get it home without any accidental scratches!)
Selling because I’m left-handed and the rifle isn’t. I can shoot it, but at my age it’s easier to shoot my other rifles.
Buyer must be a legal Utah resident, have proof of residency, preferably a CCP and be legal to own a firearm. Buyer must complete and sign a bill of sale. Cash only.
