Description

Have a Benelli M4 or clone?  Keep reading…

If one carefully unscrews the gas plug just until the threads disengage, then wiggles it side to side while gently pulling towards the muzzle until it comes out, the gas plug o-ring will slide across the threads and usually remain undamaged. However, if you are not careful (or tried twisting them out) and have damaged your o-rings, (or had to heat your gas plugs to get the threadlocker to release from your clone–melting the o-rings in the process) Benelli will be happy to sell you a replacement pair for $34, plus another $17 for shipping. For those who want to go this route, the Benelli P/N is 70107.

If you are willing to try something not “Benelli blessed” you can purchase the same Viton o-rings elsewhere for much cheaper.  Don’t use your average, everyday hardware store o-rings which are usually made of Buna N (aka Nitrile).  Viton has a much higher service temperature (400F vs 250F).  Additionally the shelf life of Viton is essentially forever, so you can buy some extras and have confidence they will be usable when you need them, while saving yourself some money in the process.

I have several dozen of these, more than I will ever use.  If you want some, I’m selling for $10/pair shipped anywhere in the USA via a first class envelope.

To re-install I put the tiniest bit of SYL-GLYDE on the o-ring only and reverse the procedure: rocking back and forth slightly with gentle pressure towards the breach until the plug threads are deep enough in the gas cylinder to begin to engage. Then screw in normally. I have done this over 30 times to the same o-ring without any observable damage.  I hope this is helpful to someone.
